⋆ Implement the icon across a system in small, medium and large contexts
The designer I chose to represent as an icon is Malika Favre, a French illustrator. Her illustrations are between pop art and op art, as her work revolves around simple color palettes and beautiful shapes. Favre has contributed to her field through the storytelling behind her illustration to promote women as something more than just sexist stereotypes. Her work revolves around women and their independence. Favre uses red lipstick and sometimes even a beauty mark on top of the lip as one of her signature marks on her illustrations. Red lipstick is a very empowering symbol for women throughout history, as red lipstick became part of the suffragette movement, a feminist rebellion promoting women's empowerment. To incorporate her op style, I chose to mainly work around black and white, the stripes at the top half of her head to represent Favre’s work for being open in optimism. Lastly, the usage of a pink-purple light tone brings in the sense of feminism, the two colors have been associated with women and their feminist movement, while still bringing balance to the icon with the right top half with the white silhouette of a woman.
